My first real breakaway from the conventional classical and steel stringed guitars came in 1988 in the shape of a guitar that I designed and built for an old friend and legendary world guitarist, Steve Newman. I exhibited the prototype at the Frankfurt Music Fair in Germany that same year and, like the SmoothTalker, it was met with keen interest as well as apprehension, in equal measures.

This departure from tradition did not end my love affair with the highly evolved classical designs; it simply reflects my own curiosity and response to the challenge that faces a Luthier when building for an innovative guitarist.

The unique SmoothTalker design is the result of an on-going process of intense experimentation that started with the 1988 prototype and it offers some distinctive qualities (Really!).

These include:
- Easy left hand access to the top frets on the fingerboard.
- Tone that is totally different from anything else.
- Excellent balance from string to string and note to note.
- Very loud acoustic sound and huge projection.
- Highly restricted feedback when plugged in, even at high volume.

The SmoothTalker does not try to outsmart its older brothers, it’s simply different.

Looks different. Sounds different.
